Martin Gear (centre) was accompanied by his teacher, Brad Taylor a Mining and Forestry teacher from TAFE Western, when he was presented with his Outstanding Graduating Student Award by TAFE Western Institute Director, Kate Baxter. Martin is the manager of the Hanson's quarry at Bathurst. He is involved within his local community, including sponsoring an educational award through the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council.

Martin says TAFE has been an integral part of his success so far. "It has taught me how to manage my time, become an effective leader and has also allowed me to network with people from many different areas related to my job."

His next career goal is to become involved in project management for primary industries.
