BBM TAFE NSW Rural Youth Scholarships and Aboriginal Youth Scholarships
BBM (formerly Big Brother Movement) Ltd is a non political, non commercial, non sectarian organisation that was established in 1925 to assist the settlement of British young people migrating to Australia. Since its original inception, BBM has expanded its activities to include a range of youth award schemes and youth support programs. More information about BBM can be obtained from the BBM website.
TAFE Western has recgonised that a number of successful students (aged 15 - 23) who are committed to further study and have good attendance records are not able to continue with mainstream TAFE education due to the prohibitive financial costs of purchasing required texts, and/or course related learning materials such as protective clothing and tools.
BBM has established these scholarships to help overcome the financial barriers for young students who are committed to further study.
The value of the scholarships varies depening on each successful applicant's need. Previous scholarships have commenced at $100.00 and have rarely exceeded $1000.00.
Students may apply for scholarships in subsequent rounds.
Scholarships can be used to support students by paying expenses using the following priorities:
First Priority Items
- Text books
- Costs directly associated learning materials required for the course eg dust coat, uniform / protective clothing, tools, criminal record check, dictionary, thesaurus, stationary etc
Second Priority Items
- Travel (other than regular attendance at College)
TAFE Fee - will generally not be considered unless exceptional circumstances apply
The recommendations of TAFE teachers, counsellors and coordinators are fundamental to the assessment of the student's commitment and suitability.
